OCEAN ISLE to WILMINGTON / Friday, April 1 to Sunday, April 3 (Days 70-72)

Admiral's Log:     8:40 am, 4/1/16
                         Temp:   70
                         Winds:   14 mph
                         Speed:   6.3

Cloudy start, weather prediction was for rain most of the day. So we drove from the inside. We took Sallie for a ride to Wilmington where we are meeting up with  her husband Ron, for dinner.
Captain Sallie

We stayed at Wilmington City Docks, which are behind the Hilton Hotel, right downtown on the Cape Fear River. Perfect location and adorable town. Even had decent WIFI provided by the Hilton.

Love this pic!
It's a good sized town, lots of bars, restaurants and shops one one main street within easy walking distance to the boat. They have a great River Walk as well. There is a Coast Guard cutter parked behind us open for tours. There is also a retired Battleship across the river from us.
Cheers to good friends!
We had a mini Pub Crawl. Luckily we were not driving. Sallie bought me a cute scarf for my upcoming Birthday. OK dinner at the River House.

Saturday, about 5:15 am, we were awoken by a loud bang. Mike thought maybe some kids had jumped aboard to check out the boat. Instead, it was a huge log that hit the boat and rocked all of us. Luckily it did not do any damage, but apparently it's pretty common on this river.

Aunt Bev and cousin John
Ron and Sallie drove us to Enterprise so we could rent and car to drive to Fayetteville and meet my Aunt Bev, my cousin John and his wife Abi for lunch. They live in Cary, NC so Fayetteville was kind of half way for all of us. I had not seen them is nearly 10 years. We had a wonderful visit, catching up on kids and politics. I hope it is not so long next time.

Mike and I took advantage of the rental car and went to Tiffany's (West Marine), Walgreens and Harris Teeter for groceries. We had left over vegetable soup and watched the College Basketball final 4 and the Lightning win.

Sunday, Mike returned the rental car and we just hung out a bit. I worked on the blog while he read. After lunch we toured the Coast Guard Cutter "Diligence" which is still in service. And the battleship "North Carolina".

The Anchor!
So many guns!
This is one link of the anchor chain!

It was a really nice sunny day compared to yesterday, but quite cool. Don't think it got out of the 50's. We cooked a one pot Mexican dish for dinner.

  1. Truly amazing photos! Gad that everyone had a wonderful time in the event. I am also going to host a staff party and was seeking suggestions for affordable venues for corporate events Chicago. Hoping to find one soon.
