ST. JOSEPH'S MI to HAMMOND IN / Monday, August 29 (Day 221)

Admiral's Log:     7:55 am, Mon. 8/29/16
Air Temp:   66     Water Temp:   73
                        Winds:    3 mph
                        Speed:   10.7 knots

We arrived at Hammond Indiana at a little after noon and fueled up so we can be heavy to make sure we can get under the bridge on the Calumet . We are too tall to be able to go through downtown Chicago on the Chicago River, so we have to go through the Cal-Sag Channel on the Calumet River around Chicago. Then the two rivers meet up again in about 30 miles. We had to make several preparations to go down the Rivers section of this adventure; lower our antennas and anchor light so we don't scrape the bridge and secure and cover the dingy, as we won't use as much on the rivers. I'm going to miss my Lighthouses. Not sure we will see anymore or not, possibly in the Gulf.

We will be going through quite a few more locks, so we had to dig out a bunch of fenders to hang on both sides of the boat, because you never know which side you will be told to tie to. We had to dig out rope to use to tie to the bollards. We wrap a line around the bollard and it floats up with the boat. Not like the previous locks where you have to help the rope up the cable. And not as messy.

We docked next to Jet Stream and Rose's Pick. We have traveled with Jet Stream several times. We went through the Dismal Swamp with Rose's Pick. We did not get to see them; it looked like they were gone for few days. We met a new couple from Jackson Mississippi on Miss Natalie.

We had soup and chicken salad sandwiches for dinner and stayed in because it started to rain and town was too far of a walk.
