BIG CHUTE WALL to MIDLAND / Tuesday, July 12 to Thursday, July 14 (Days 173-175)

Admiral's Log:     8:00 am, Tues. 7/12/16
Air Temp:   66     Water Temp:   72
                        Winds:   calm
                        Speed:   7.2 knots

We finally made it to the last lock! It was an interesting part of the trip, but I've had enough of the locks, ready to move on. This lock is the smallest and the busiest, only 80 feet long. We were locked with another small boat. We had to wait over an hour to be locked through.

Another cute island house.
Tight channel, 18 feet and we are 15.5!
We got to our marina at 11:45. Lori and I enjoyed the pool and talked to a Canadian family we had met at the last lock. Very nice people, we tried to talk them into doing the Loop.

The marina hosted a wine and cheese gathering for the 10 Looper boats and held a discussion on things to see and avoid in the Georgian Bay; our next leg.

We had dinner at the marina restaurant with Mel and Ann of Morning Star (and their guests Ed and Helen), Dave and Lori of Phase II and Mike and Tonya of Sweet T. It was nice having most of the gang back together again.

Wednesday,  Mike had the oil and filters changed on the boat, while I went with Mel and Ann in their rental car to the laundromat, grocery and Walmart. The next few weeks we will be in pretty remote parts of Canada and there are not many places to provision, so we stocked up. It was a long day, Mike fixed grouper fingers for dinner then we pretty much crashed.

Thursday, we did a little trip planning then started to clean and work on the boat. I had some sort of stomach attack. I think it may have been my gall bladder. It was pretty painful, but hoping I can control with diet rather than surgery and interrupt our trip. Mike and Mel got haircuts. Then the 4 boats had a discussion of plans for the next few days.

We had dinner at the marina restaurant again with Ann and Mel, I got caught up with the Blog and hit the sack. I'm probably going to be behind again until I can get to WIFI, so don't forget to check for updates in about a week.
