HAVRE de GRACE MD to CAPE MAY NJ / Monday, May 30 to Tuesday, May 31 (Days 130-131)

Admiral's Log:     5:55 am, Mon. 5/30/16
Air Temp:   68     Water Temp:   71
                        Winds:   4 mph
                        Speed:   8.3 knots

Today, we are leaving Chesapeake  Bay and entering Delaware Bay via the Chesapeake to Delaware Canal (commonly known as the C and D canal). It's kind of bitter sweet leaving the Chesapeake, I wish we had more time to visit all the other quaint towns and peaceful rivers and creeks, but so much more to see.

We left early to try and get a head of weather we knew was on the horizon. We had a mini flotilla; with Mike leading the way, followed by Lazy Suzan and Chica.

The trip was not very eventful. The C and D is 14 miles long, and pretty boring, but we did pass several lighthouses.
Miah Maull Shoal (too foggy)
Ship John Shoal
Fishing Battery (abandoned)
Turkey Point
We arrived at Utsch's Marina in Cape May at 3:20. The six of us walked to diner at the Lobster House. The food was ok but the service was horrible. We guess our waitress was mad about having to work on a holiday. She was very short when we asked any questions and pretty much threw our menus at us. That's when we knew we had officially crossed the Mason Dixon line.

Tuesday, we had hoped to get up early head towards New York City today, but it was way to foggy to leave. So I caught up on laundry and we shared a rental car with Lee and Suzan of Lazy Suzan and went to the grocery and liquor store. While at the liquor store we saw an adorable shopping street. So the boys went back to the boat and Suzan and I told them when to pick us up. There are dozens of beautiful Victorian homes all along the beach (or shore as they call it here).

Cape May is considered to be the first Beach Resort in the country and the rich from Philadelphia had their vacation homes here. Most have been restored to their original grandeur and many have been turned into shops, restaurants and B and Bs. Suzan and I kicked off our shoes and took a short stroll along the beach. It reminded us of the old 50's and 60's movies and TV shows with the cute colorful cabanas and umbrellas.

When we returned to the boat Phase II and Cutty's Ark had arrived. We had a good sized Docktail hour, which we had not had in a while. Mike, Lee and I went for pizza, but I was too full from yummy appetizers to eat.
